One day I decided to build us a boat that would bring us to tropical places
The build turned out rough and the travelling was tough but you could see a smile on our
faces because we all knew

That we must persevere through and through
And we must keep our eyes open too
So we don’t don’t have nothing to do
No we don’t don’t have nothing to do

One day I decided to build us a harbour that our boat and others could visit
That sounds very nice but I’m not sure this plan of mine’s good for our money or
is it I don’t have a clue

But we must persevere through and through
And we must keep our eyes open too
So we don’t don’t have nothing to do
No we don’t don’t have nothing to do

Our town is quitte far from the sea
You have to sail around a big piece of land before you’re finally on your way
How can we get more people to come to our port ... to trade?
We could use some money

One day I decided to dig a canal; that would be a substantial improvement
We dug ’till our backs ached but wow the result was increased economical
movement; our bank accounts grew

Yes we did persevere through and through
And we did keep our eyes open too
So we don’t don’t have nothing to do
No we don’t don’t have nothing to do

Our town has grown bigger, our port has grown bigger, but ships have grown bigger as well now
The ships have to struggle to come to our port - they go elsewhere - let’s turn the tide somehow
One day I decided to build us a lock where the biggest ships easily would fit in
The captains will like that for certain, they don’t have to wait and can do without
gritting their teeth in a cue

Yes we must persevere through and through
And we must keep our eyes open too
So we don’t don’t have nothing to do
No we don’t don’t have nothing to do
No we don’t don’t have nothing to do
